“The Urban Renewal Center is partnering with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra to host the 3rd annual Evening of Hope. We will commemorate victims and survivors of gun, knife, and other forms of violence. We will also honor frontline professionals working to bring news of hope amid the frequent violence in Hampton Roads. Performances will include the following: Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Dr. Alex Harris, Cassandra IsFree, Shark City Drum and Dance Corps and others. We are uniting the community in hope! 2. Saint-Saëns’ Organ Symphony | October 18-20
As part of the Lafayette 200 celebration, Music Director Laureate JoAnn Falletta leads the Virginia Symphony Orchestra & Chorus in a tribute to French musical excellence with Saint-Saëns’ grand romantic symphony featuring the ‘king of instruments,’ the organ. Its enduring melodies have made their way into pop songs and even the main theme of the film “Babe.”

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the premiere of Martha Graham’s “Appalachian Spring”ballet, where audiences first heard the iconic strains of Copland’s music that would come to define an American musical language. His suite of music from the ballet expanded for full orchestra further cemented the piece into the fabric of popular culture.
Grammy Award-winning songwriter Aoife O’Donovan joins the VSO and her husband, Music Director Eric Jacobsen, to perform her musical exploration of voting rights for women. “America, Come” is inspired by the lives, letters, and speeches of the president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association Carrie Chapman Catt and United States President Woodrow Wilson during the summer of 1920.”

“I would like to share about Love Petals, a not for profit 501(c)(3) charity. This event is monthly on Saturdays from 12PM – 2PM at Maker’s Craft Brewery, Norfolk. The dates for this year are Sept. 28 Oct. 26, Nov. 23, Dec. 14. Participants will kick off with a 10-15 minute instructional session on designing fresh flower bedside arrangements. After the brief lesson, all volunteers will have the chance to create their own unique arrangements for same-day delivery. All materials are provided free of charge, although donations are greatly appreciated.
